OBJECTILE ADVENTURES:
THE FLOOR
Medium: Architectural Installation
Banham Fellowship Exhibition, University at Buffalo
Year: 2025-2026
This installation expands the R.F.O. methodology to the architectural scale. Twenty-eight Objectiles responded to request for “those that are flat-ish and less than sixteen inches deep,” pausing along their journeys to become a “floor”. Unlike floors made from standardized new materials, this Objectile’d floor is full of affordances, requiring negotiation and imagination.
Slopes, ridges, hinges, voids, and other idiosyncrasies challenge the idea of the floor as a passive plane and invite new forms of engagement. When opened to the public on April 20, visitors crawled, lounged, burrowed, and sprawled while speculating on the Objectiles’ past lives. The traces left behind will travel with them wherever their next life takes them. (Photos: Doug Levere)
